Michael Engel

Prof. Dr. Michael Engel is a full-time faculty member at the Otto-Friedrich University of Bamberg, holding the Chair of Practical Computer Science, especially Systems Programming. His academic career spans multiple institutions, including TU Dortmund, NTNU Trondheim, and Coburg University of Applied Sciences, with research expertise in systems programming, embedded systems, and compiler design. He has also founded the company kernel concepts and worked at Oracle Labs.

• Education: Dipl.-Math. (1999) and Dipl.-Ing. (2002) from University of Siegen; Doctorate in Computer Science (2005) from Philipps University of Marburg.
• Research focuses on operating systems, distributed systems, Rust programming, RISC-V, and virtualization projects.
• Current teaching activities include courses on system software, operating systems engineering, and bachelor/master projects in systems programming.
