Michael Eddy

Michael Eddy is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences at Purdue University. He is affiliated with the Purdue Radiogenic Isotope Geology Lab and specializes in igneous petrology and tectonics, using field observations and geochemical measurements, particularly U-Pb geochronology via thermal ionization mass spectrometry.

Research focuses on magma reservoir evolution in Nevada and Pacific Northwest tectonics. Key projects include fossil magma systems and the tectonic history of Washington’s Cascades. His work integrates field data with lab geochronology to understand magmatic processes.

Publications span U-Pb dating of Deccan Traps, Eocene basalt studies, and quasicrystal mineralogy in meteorites. His articles highlight interdisciplinary approaches to geochronology and tectonic evolution.

Awards include the 2016 MIT Excellence in Teaching Award and 2015 GSA Bruce L. 'Biff' Reed Scholarship.
