Michael Durrant is a Lecturer in Book History at the School of Advanced Study (SAS). His research focuses on early modern book-trade professionals, ornamental initials, printer's devices, and user-generated modifications in pre-modern books. His monograph The Dreadful Name of Henry Hills: The Lives, Transformations, and Afterlives of a Seventeenth-Century Printer is under contract with Manchester University Press.
Prior to his current role, he taught at The University of Manchester, Staffordshire University, and Bangor University, where he designed modules on early modern literature, material text analysis, scholarly editing, and book provenance.
His academic contributions bridge historical bibliography and cultural studies, emphasizing the dynamic interactions between printed objects and their users.
