Michael Crawford

Michael Crawford is an Associate Professor in the Department of History within the College of Liberal Arts at McNeese State University. His office is located in Kaufman Hall 209I, and he can be reached at mcrawford@mcneese.edu. Dr. Crawford teaches courses including European History Surveys, The Renaissance and Reformation, Medieval Europe, History of Spain and Portugal, and History of Christianity.

He earned his Ph.D. in European History from the University of Arizona, specializing in the Renaissance and Reformation with an emphasis on Spanish history. His undergraduate degree is a B.A. in International Studies from the University of Washington.

Dr. Crawford's research focuses on European history, particularly the social and religious dynamics of the late medieval and early modern periods. His current project investigates religious toleration and persecution during the sixteenth-century wars of religion in the Spanish Habsburg Netherlands.

His scholarship includes the book The Fight for Status and Privilege in Late Medieval and Early Modern Castile, 1465-1598 (Pennsylvania University Press, 2014), which examines noble social status conflicts and their impact on privilege in Castile. This work and his ongoing research demonstrate a commitment to understanding the interplay between social hierarchy and religious identity in early modern Europe.
