About
Dr Michael Cassidy is an External Examiner and Post-doctoral Researcher affiliated with the Doctoral College Administration - Student Administration (Academic Registry) at the University of Plymouth. His current research focuses on volcanic activity, particularly the Volcán de Colima in Mexico under a NERC Urgency Grant led by Dr Paul Cole. He employs multidisciplinary methods including SO₂ gas emissions analysis (using UV cameras and Flyspec), seismic data interpretation, satellite imagery, and tephra analysis to assess volcanic processes and hazards.
His work integrates field observations with laboratory techniques to understand eruption mechanisms, effusion rates, and fragmentation dynamics, aiming to improve risk assessments for communities near active volcanoes. Contact details include Room 204 at Fitzroy, Drake Circus, Plymouth (PL4 8AA) and +44 1752 564757.
