Prof. Dr. Michael Bechtel is a Professor of Political Economy and Chair of the Department of Political Science at the University of Cologne, Germany. He is a core member of the Excellence Cluster ECONtribute: Markets and Public Policy and affiliated with the Center for Comparative and International Studies (CCIS). His research focuses on global economic and environmental sustainability challenges, including climate policy, disaster response, and distributive politics. Bechtel's work combines experimental methods, survey design, and statistical analysis to explore voter behavior, public opinion dynamics, and institutional design.
