Michael Bachmann

Dr. Michael Bachmann is an Associate Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at Michigan State University (MSU). His research focuses on combining bioluminescence imaging with molecular genetic screens to study immune interactions with cancer cells and mismatched transplants, aiming to modulate immune responses for clinical benefit. Prior to joining MSU, he worked at Stanford University and completed his graduate studies under Dr. James I. Mullins at Harvard. His educational background includes medical training in Frankfurt, Mainz (Germany), and the Hammersmith Hospital in London.

Research interests include cancer immunology, extracellular vesicle-mediated metastasis, and the development of novel imaging probes for cell fate tracking. His laboratory integrates advanced imaging techniques with genetic screens to uncover mechanisms governing tumor immunity and transplant rejection.
