Michael Bach

Michael Bach is a Professor at the Institute of Classical and Church Music, Lucerne School of Music (HSLU). He is renowned for his achievements as a conductor of brass bands, including leading the Brass Band Bürgermusik Luzern to multiple national and international titles, such as the European Championship (2014) and Swiss Championships (2013). He has also conducted ensembles like the Eikanger-Bjorsvik Band (Norway), Fodens Band, and Grimethorpe Colliery Band, serving as their Professional Musical Director since 2023. Additionally, he is Head of the Musikschule Saanenland-Obersimmental and an expert in brass music competitions.

Education: Studied conducting and music education at the University of Bern and Hochschule der Künste Bern (HKB), under mentors like Ludwig Wicki, Oliver Waespi, and Thomas Rüedi. Further training included masterclasses with Howard Snell, David King, and Baldur Brönnimann.

Research focuses on expanding brass band repertoire through commissions from composers such as Roland Szentpali and Philip Wilby. His work emphasizes innovative interpretations and educational outreach in classical and church music.

Engagements include regular conducting with Orchestra degli Amici and guest appearances with national youth bands. His career highlights blend performance, pedagogy, and competition leadership across Europe.
