Michael Albright is an Instructor in Film and Media Studies at Santa Barbara City College. He holds a BA from UCSB (2004), an MA from UCLA (2008), and is pursuing a PhD in Film and Media Studies at UCSB. His research focuses on American Independent Cinema, Copyright Law, DIY Media, and Documentary practices.
Albright's career includes work with Albert Maysles in NYC, founding the non-profit Project Moonshine (teaching filmmaking to teens), and operating Moonpix production company. His acclaimed documentary Sonic Youth: Sleeping Nights Awake (2008) highlights his blend of theory and practice. He advocates media literacy and integrates community-focused approaches into his teaching.
