Michael Adams is an Honorary Principal Fellow in Human Geography at the University of Wollongong’s School of Geography and Sustainable Communities. He previously held roles as Associate Professor (2012–2020) and Senior Lecturer (2004–2011) at the same institution. His research focuses on Indigenous environmental knowledge, human-nature relationships, and conservation policy. Adams holds a PhD in Human Geography from the University of Wollongong (2001) and degrees in Landscape Architecture and Arts from the University of Sydney.
His work bridges academic, cultural, and policy domains, including studies on Indigenous land management, biodiversity conservation, and the socio-ecological impacts of wild horse populations. Adams has collaborated with Indigenous communities and contributed to discussions on decolonizing methodologies in environmental science. His articles and public engagements reflect a commitment to reimagining human relationships with nature in the Anthropocene.
