Mette Ramsgaard Thomsen serves as Paul Philippe Cret Visiting Professor in the Department of Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania's Weitzman School of Design. She concurrently directs the Centre for IT and Architecture (CITA) research group at the Royal Danish Academy.
Thomsen's research examines the intersection of architecture with digital technologies, focusing on computational design processes and digital-material relationships. Her work explores how digital tools transform architectural conception, design methodologies, and construction practices. Current projects include metabolistic modeling for sustainable architectural design and interdisciplinary investigations into digital fabrication.
She leads strategic European research collaborations including the ERC project 'Eco-Metabolistic Modelling for Architectural Design' and the Marie Curie ITN network 'Innochain'. Thomsen serves as General Reporter and Science Track lead for UIA2023CPH World Congress 'Sustainable Futures – Leave no one behind', addressing architecture's role in achieving UN Sustainable Development Goals.
