About
Dr. Meropi Mari is a Research Fellow at the Institute of Electronic Structure and Lasers (IESL) under the Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH). She holds a B.Sc. in Physics (2005) and an M.Sc. in Optoelectronics (2008) from the University of Crete, and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Edinburgh (2014). Her research focuses on non-linear microscopy techniques, including Second/Third Harmonic Generation, Coherent Anti-Stokes Raman Scattering, and Two-Photon Excitation Fluorescence, with applications in biomedical imaging and cultural heritage preservation. She recently secured funding to develop a Two-Photon Microscope for in vivo studies on mice.
Her research interests also encompass lipid and protein interactions, lipid bilayer analysis via Atomic Force Microscopy, and the application of Raman Spectroscopy to study biomolecules. She has published in journals like Microscopy Research and Technique and Journal of Lipid Research, exploring topics such as ectopic fat deposition in Caenorhabditis elegans and optical coherence tomography for cultural artifacts.
Mari’s work bridges biomedical engineering and materials science, with contributions to both biological and heritage-related imaging challenges. Her recent grant supports advancing microscopy techniques for in vivo applications.
