Meredith Oyen

Meredith Oyen is an Associate Professor at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), specializing in U.S. and U.S. Diplomatic History. Her research focuses on transnational networks in Sino-American relations during the Cold War, with current work examining Jewish refugees in WWII Shanghai and postwar refugee resettlement politics.

Research Portfolio: Combines migration studies, diplomatic history, and refugee studies to analyze how non-state actors shape international relations. Her book The Diplomacy of Migration (Cornell University Press, 2015) explores transnational lives in U.S.-Chinese Cold War relations. Current projects include Shanghai Survivors, investigating displaced persons in Asia during WWII.

Grants & Fellowships: Recipient of multiple UMBC grants (Hrabowski Innovation Grant, CAHSS Summer Faculty Research Fellowship) and Holocaust Museum research support. Participated in NEH Summer Institute on Veterans Studies.
