Meredith Hope is Assistant Professor of Psychology at the College of Wooster. Her research examines how cultural institutions and resources influence development in high-risk contexts, with particular focus on intersections of racial and religious identity in African American and Black immigrant communities. She investigates how these factors promote well-being among adolescents and emerging adults.
Professor Hope teaches courses including Psychology of Black Americans, Psychology of Religion and Spirituality, and Emerging Adulthood. Her publications explore religious coping, mental health disparities, and identity development. She received the Early Career Excellence in Research Award from the Program for Research on Black Americans in 2023.
Her recent work demonstrates strong themes in Black mental health, religious coping mechanisms, and the protective role of cultural institutions. Publications frequently employ longitudinal designs and cross-cultural comparisons between African American and Caribbean Black populations.
