Meredith Gartin

Dr. Meredith Gartin is an Associate Professor of Global Health in the Department of Health Policy and Organization at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Public Health. She also serves as Board President of the Alabama Interfaith Refugee Partnership. Her research focuses on global environmental health, urbanization, migration, and climate change impacts on health equity. Dr. Gartin holds a PhD in International/Global Studies from Arizona State University and has conducted fieldwork across Central/South America, the South Pacific, and the US.

• Academic Roles: Program Director of Global Health Studies, Co-Chair of the Consortium of Universities for Global Health Education Committee, and Director of UAB's Global Health Curriculum.
• Education: PhD (Arizona State University, 2012), MFA (Auburn University, 2006), BA (University of Georgia, 2004).
• Teaching: Leads courses in global health fundamentals, migration, and service learning. Active in curriculum development for MPH/Master's programs.

Research Interests: Climate Change Adaptation, Water Security, Refugee Health, Global Health Education, Urban Health Systems.

Professional Recognition: Recipient of the School of Public Health Innovation in Teaching Award (2021) and UAB Student Organization Advisor of the Year (2021). Active reviewer for journals like International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health.

Labs/Teams: Leadership roles in the Sparkman Center for Global Health and development of UAB's Global Health Case Competition initiatives.
