Meredian Alam

Meredian Alam is a Researcher at the University of Newcastle’s School of Humanities and Social Science, where he is pursuing a PhD in Sociology and Anthropology. His academic background includes an MPhil from the University of Oslo and an MA/BSocSci (Honours) from Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia.

His research applies Bourdieusian theory (habitus, doxa, ilusio) to study youth environmental movements in Indonesia, particularly reclaiming urban forests in Bandung. He has extensive experience as a government relations analyst, associate researcher, and field research coordinator, with a focus on social impact analysis and biogas development.

His publications span environmental sociology, renewable energy, and youth activism, reflecting trends in urban environmentalism, biogas innovation, and social theory applications. Awards include multiple scholarships from the University of Newcastle, Nordic Institute of Asian Studies, UNESCO, and others.
