Mercedes Fuertes-Fuente is an Associate Professor in the Geology Department at the University of Oviedo. Her research focuses on mineral deposit modeling, with emphasis on gold-copper deposits (skarn, epithermal, mesothermal, porphyry) and rare element deposits linked to magmatism. She collaborates with teams from CNRS (France) and the Institute of Earth Sciences (Portugal), and has served as coordinator for the Official Master's Degree in Geological Resources and Engineering Geology (2014-2019).
She earned her PhD from the University of Oviedo in 1996, studying rare element pegmatites in Galicia. Her research methodology training and applied techniques have supported collaborations with over 20 mining companies. She has participated in 9 National Research Plan projects (IP in 3) and an international R+D project.
Her scientific contributions include 25 articles in SCI journals (Ore Geology Reviews, Lithos, Mineralium Deposita), 9 peer-reviewed non-indexed articles, 5 book chapters, and 18 international conference contributions. She specializes in paleofluids and mineral resource characterization.
