About
Mercè Llugany Olle is a researcher at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), affiliated with the Department of Animal Biology, Plant Biology and Ecology. Her work focuses on plant physiology, particularly biofortification strategies using selenium, salinity stress mitigation, and phytoremediation. She holds a Ph.D. (1994) and Licenciatura (1990) from UAB.
Research Interests: Selenium bioavailability in crops, plant responses to abiotic stress (salinity, aluminum toxicity), and sustainable agricultural practices. Her projects emphasize functional food development and environmental biotechnology applications.
Key Projects (2021–2025):
- PATHFOOD: Sustainable functional food chain for EU climate neutrality
- Se4All: Selenium-enriched alfalfa for dairy products
- TRACEWINDU: Traceability in wine industry
Grants & Collaborations: Multiple EU and national grants (e.g., European Commission, FEDER). Active collaborations in Spain, Argentina, and Europe on selenium biofortification and stress physiology.
