Randolf Menzel is a Professor and Head of the Institute of Neurobiology at the Free University of Berlin since 1976. He holds a Guest Professorship at the Center of Neuroscience, University of Trondheim (Norway, since 2002). His roles include former Dean of the School of Biology at Free University of Berlin (1978-1980) and President of the International Society of Neuroethology (1992–1995).
His research focuses on neurobiological mechanisms underlying honeybee behavior, including learning/memory, navigation, communication, and sensory processing (color vision and olfaction). He has pioneered studies on the neural basis of insect cognition and behavioral plasticity.
