About
Menno Prins is a Full Professor at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in the departments of Applied Physics and BioMedical Engineering. He leads the Molecular Biosensing research group and is affiliated with the Institute for Complex Molecular Systems (ICMS). Prins is also the founder of SensUs, an international student competition in biosensors for health.
- MSc: Applied Physics (cum laude), Université Paris XI and Delft University of Technology
- PhD: Radboud University Nijmegen (1995)
His research focuses on developing technologies for single-molecule protein detection in complex environments like blood plasma, leveraging biophysical manipulation and particle motion to study molecular properties (e.g., affinity, kinetic parameters, torsion constants). This work aims to advance continuous patient monitoring and personalized healthcare.
Recent publications highlight his work on heterogeneous biosensors (2025, Advanced Science), fast-dissociating antibody fragments for protein monitoring (2025, ACS Sensors), and mathematical models of inflammation (2024, npj Systems Biology and Applications). These studies emphasize applications in sepsis research, stochastic molecular fluctuations, and antibody engineering.
Prins contributes to education through the SensUs Organization honors track and courses on molecular biosensing and health monitoring. His ancillary activities include co-founding Helia Biomonitoring BV.
