Melvin Royer

Dr. Melvin Royer is a Professor in the Division of Mathematics, Engineering and Computer Science at Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU), where he has served since 2001. His roles include teaching mathematics at various educational levels and volunteer English teaching in Asia. He holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Mathematics from Purdue University (1997 and 1989), and a B.S. from Purdue University (1988).

Dr. Royer’s research focuses on dynamical systems, emphasizing their applications in modeling biological populations (e.g., disease spread) and their aesthetic connections to fractal structures like the Mandelbrot Set. His work bridges pure mathematics with practical problem-solving, reflecting an appreciation for the intersection of mathematical beauty and real-world utility. He also emphasizes applied mathematics and student project supervision, fostering hands-on learning experiences.

Outside academia, Royer is an avid traveler, having explored regions including Asia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, prioritizing cultural engagement over material souvenirs.
