Melek Halifeoglu

Melek Halifeoglu is an Associate Professor at Bingöl University, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of Political Science and Public Administration. She has been working at Bingöl University since 2018, after completing her integrated doctoral program at Hacettepe University between 2011-2018. She has held visiting researcher positions at the University of Strasbourg, France (2024) and Universidade de Évora, Portugal (2023).

Her academic journey began with an undergraduate degree in Political Science and Public Administration from Hacettepe University in 2009. She then pursued her integrated doctoral studies at the same institution from 2011-2018, with a period of Erasmus student mobility at Helena Chodkowska University of Management and Law in Warsaw, Poland in 2013.

Melek Halifeoglu's research interests span political economy, state theory, political theory, regulation school, regime of accumulation, labor regime, hegemony, hegemonic project, and gender studies with a particular focus on Turkey. Her work often examines the intersection of these areas, especially in the context of Turkish politics and society. She has published extensively on topics related to AKP politics, women's representation, and Marxist state theory, demonstrating consistent scholarly productivity from 2012 to 2025.

Her publications reveal a strong focus on applying theoretical frameworks like Bob Jessop's two-nations hegemonic project to analyze Turkish political developments. She has conducted significant research on gender issues in academia and Turkish politics, as well as on the political economy of welfare regimes and women's employment in Turkey, with particular attention to rural settings like Bingöl Province.
