Meindert Boersma is a Researcher at the Department of Political and Social Sciences at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence, Italy. A Dutch national, he joined the institution in cohort 2024 as part of the current academic staff.
His research specializes in international environmental politics, with particular focus on theoretical frameworks for understanding emerging collective actors in global governance systems. Boersma's work examines how non-traditional political entities organize and influence environmental policy-making across national boundaries. His current research project, Down To Earth, Rise Up: Theorising New Collective Actors in International Environmental Politics, supervised by Stefano Guzzini, develops new conceptual approaches to understanding political mobilization in the environmental sphere.
As an active member of the International Relations Working Group at EUI, Boersma contributes to scholarly discussions on global political dynamics, with particular attention to climate change governance and transnational activism. His research intersects with several key EUI themes including environmental justice, global governance, and political behavior in international contexts.
