Meina Zhu is an Associate Professor in the Learning Design and Technology program within the College of Education at Wayne State University. She earned her Ph.D. in Instructional Systems Technology from Indiana University Bloomington, complemented by an MS in Educational Technology from Beijing Normal University and a BS in Educational Technology from Shandong Normal University.
Her educational background has informed her research trajectory, which centers on understanding how technology can enhance teaching and learning. Dr. Zhu's work spans two interconnected domains: (1) investigating design and teaching practices for self-directed learning in various educational contexts, and (2) leveraging emerging technologies like AI and learning analytics to improve STEM education, particularly computer science education.
Dr. Zhu's prolific scholarship encompasses over 50 peer-reviewed journal publications in top-tier venues including Educational Technology Research and Development, British Journal of Educational Technology, The Internet and Higher Education, and Distance Education, along with a co-edited book titled 'Transformative Teaching Around the World.' Her recent publications reveal a clear evolution toward AI-enhanced educational technologies, with a particular focus on self-directed learning strategies, computer science education, and the application of large language models in learning contexts.
