Mei-Chin Hsieh

Dr. Mei-Chin Hsieh is an Associate Professor-Research in the Department of Epidemiology and Population Health at the LSU Health Sciences Center School of Public Health, and serves as Assistant Director of the Louisiana Tumor Registry (LTR). She holds a PhD and MSPH in Biostatistics from Tulane University, and a BS in Medical Technology from China Medical University. Her research focuses on cancer disparities, particularly in treatment access and survival outcomes across racial/ethnic and socioeconomic groups for cancers like colorectal, breast, lung, and pancreatic. She is Co-Principal Investigator for the NCI’s SEER program and CDC’s NPCR in Louisiana, and Principal Investigator for multiple NIH/NCI-funded studies including DANCE-CRC and CIN3 projects.

Education includes a PhD (2016), MSPH (1998) from Tulane University, and BS (1987) from China Medical University. Research interests emphasize health disparities, cancer surveillance, and social determinants of health. She has received the Delta Omega Award (1999).

Recent publications highlight disparities in cancer mortality among transplant recipients, Medicaid expansion impacts on rural pancreatic cancer care, and racial differences in lung cancer treatment. Key awards include the Delta Omega honor society recognition. Dr. Hsieh leads grants totaling millions, focusing on cancer epidemiology and disparities. She serves on national committees like the NAACCR Data Access Committee and contributes to workshops on cancer registry practices.

Led initiatives improving data completeness via hospital partnerships and audits. Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, including surgeons and biostatisticians, to advance population-based cancer research and public health policy.
