Dr. Mehtap Hisarciklilar is an Associate Professor (Research) at Coventry University's School of Economics, Finance and Accounting (EFA), Department of Economics. She joined Coventry in 2019, previously holding roles at Istanbul Technical University, Staffordshire University, and the University of Sussex. She is also a founder and advisory board member of the ITU Women’s Studies Centre in Science, Engineering and Technology.
Education: She holds a BSc in Management Engineering from Istanbul Technical University (1996), an MA in Economics from Boğaziçi University (1999), a PhD in Economics from the University of Nottingham (2004), and a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education from Staffordshire University (2013).
Research Interests:
- Labour and Education Economics: Focused on inequalities, including gender wage differentials and education’s role in poverty reduction.
- Foreign Direct Investment (FDI): Examines motives, spillover effects, and spatial diversities in transition and emerging economies.
- Public Policy and Innovation: Evaluates the impact of tax credits, subsidies, and social equality in firm innovation and AI-driven labour markets.
Recent work includes analyzing AI’s impact on female labor force dynamics and FDI’s role in innovation and productivity. She has supervised over 8 PhD students, focusing on topics like ALMPs in Kosovo and FDI spillovers in Southeast Europe.
Professional Contributions: Her research aligns with UN SDGs, particularly education and gender equality. She has contributed to policy analysis, including Turkey’s pension systems and construction industry standards. Active in academia, she has held visiting roles at multiple institutions and organized workshops on global economic challenges.
