About
Meghan M. Klems is an Associate Teaching Professor of Chemistry at Widener University, located in Pennsylvania. She holds a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Delaware (2016). Her teaching focuses on general chemistry and biochemistry courses, emphasizing critical thinking and the application of chemical concepts to real-world scenarios. Dr. Klems integrates problem-based learning approaches, encouraging students to reflect on their understanding through structured classroom activities.
Her research interests span two domains: structural biology (specifically x-ray crystallography of Neutral Cholesterol Ester Hydrolase 1, NCEH1, to study cancer and atherosclerosis mechanisms) and innovative educational technology to enhance student engagement and conceptual mastery outside the classroom. She is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and the American Chemical Society (ACS).
In 2019, she co-presented at the AAC&U STEM Conference in Chicago as part of a multidisciplinary team exploring strategies to improve student retention through faculty development initiatives. Her work bridges cutting-edge biochemical research with pedagogical innovation.
