About
Meghan Graham MacLean is a Lecturer in the Department of Environmental Conservation at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Her research focuses on human-environment interactions in forest ecosystems, particularly addressing climate change impacts, invasive species management, and policy-relevant quantitative methods. She also engages in inclusive STEM pedagogy and undergraduate research mentorship.
Education: B.S. (Clarkson University, 2006), M.S. (University of New Hampshire, 2008), Ph.D. (University of New Hampshire, 2012).
Research Interests: Combines spatial analysis techniques with ecological modeling to study forest dynamics under climate and human pressures. Active in interdisciplinary projects linking ecological data with landowner behavior and policy frameworks. Leads the Quantitative Ecology Lab, emphasizing collaborative approaches to conservation challenges.
Recent work highlights include analyzing hurricane risks to forest carbon stocks (2024), oak survival under defoliation (2025), and climate change attitudes of family forest owners (2023). Her publications bridge ecological science with practical management implications, often involving community stakeholders.
Labs/Teams: Director of the Quantitative Ecology Lab, fostering collaboration between researchers, foresters, and policymakers to advance evidence-based conservation strategies.
