About
Megan Albertelli is a Professor of Comparative Medicine and Chair of the Department of Comparative Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine since 2024. As a member of Bio-X and the Wu Tsai Neurosciences Institute, her research focuses on primate genetics, neurocognitive aging, and disease modeling using mouse lemurs (Microcebus spp.).
- PhD in Human Genetics, University of Michigan (2007)
- DVM in Veterinary Medicine, Michigan State University (1699)
Her work pioneers the creation of Tabula Microcebus, a single-cell transcriptomic atlas of mouse lemurs, revealing over 750 molecular cell types and establishing this primate as a superior human model for hormonal signaling and immune gene expression. She has extensively studied azetidine-2-carboxylic acid-induced oligodendrogliopathy as a potential mechanism in multiple sclerosis pathogenesis.
She teaches COMPMED 205 (Animal Use in Biomedical Research) and supervises graduate/master's/undergraduate research projects in comparative medicine. Her research involves collaborations with Madagascar field biologists and Stanford's biotech teams.
- Diplomate, American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (2008)
