Meera Sehgal

Meera Sehgal is an Associate Professor at Carleton College, holding joint appointments in the Department of Gender, Women's & Sexuality Studies and the Department of Sociology. She has been a faculty member since 2005.

Research Interests: Meera specializes in interdisciplinary studies at the intersection of gender, Hindu nationalism, and social movements. Her work explores how nationalist ideologies in India mobilize gendered narratives, particularly through maternalist frameworks, militarism, and the politicization of reproductive justice. She also investigates the methodological challenges of feminist ethnography in politically charged environments.

Publication Trends: Her research spans feminist critiques of nationalist movements, the role of women in right-wing paramilitary structures, and the construction of gendered identities within political frameworks in India. The articles highlight recurring themes of cultural policy, siege mentalities, and intersectional analyses of power and resistance.
