Mechele Leon is Professor in the Department of Theatre & Dance and Interim Director of Jewish Studies at the University of Kansas. Her research examines theatre's role in cultural politics and heritage tourism.
Research interests include:
- Theatre historiography and French Revolution performance
- Sephardic Jewish heritage tourism in Spain
- Stage directing theory and practice
She served as Department Chair (2012-2017) and Artistic Director of University Theatre (2009-2012). Her creative work includes directing productions ranging from Shakespeare to contemporary musicals.
