Meagan Wong is Lecturer in Public International Law at the University of Essex Law School. She holds a PhD in Public International Law from Leiden University and has been a Recognized Student at the University of Oxford and Visiting Scholar at the University of Cambridge. As founding Director of the LLM in International Law, she specializes in general public international law with expertise in international criminal law, environmental law, and law of the sea.
Her research examines state responsibility, the crime of aggression, and international dispute settlement. She has advised governments on treaty implementation, immunities, and international environmental matters. Recent scholarship analyzes accountability mechanisms at the International Criminal Court, particularly regarding jurisdictional activation and reparations for aggression crimes.
Wong co-founded the Essex Public International Law Lecture Series featuring international judges and practitioners. She leads the Public International Law Research Cluster and mentors through the American Society of International Law Women in International Law program.
