Dr. Meagan Brem is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Virginia Tech. She leads the Research for Alcohol and Couples Health (REACH) Lab, focused on reducing alcohol misuse and intimate partner violence (IPV) through ecological momentary assessment (EMA) and multi-method approaches. Her work emphasizes high-risk populations such as heavy-drinking young adults, sexual minorities, and trauma-exposed individuals. Funded by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse & Alcoholism (NIAAA) and other organizations, her research bridges evidence-based interventions with real-world applications.
Dr. Brem holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Tennessee (2021) and completed a pre-doctoral internship at the Charleston Consortium/Medical University of South Carolina. She teaches courses like PSYC 6254 (Clinical Psychological Assessment) and PSYC 5984 (Interventions), and is currently accepting graduate students for her Clinical Science program.
Her research interests include cyber dating abuse, emotion dysregulation, and the interplay between trauma and IPV. The REACH Lab actively conducts studies on college campuses and collaborates with community organizations. Dr. Brem’s recent work explores how daily jealousy, alcohol use, and discrimination influence IPV risk, with findings published in journals like Journal of Family Violence and Psychology of Violence.
