About
Dr. Md Salauddin is an Assistant Professor at the School of Civil Engineering, University College Dublin (UCD), Ireland, specializing in Water and Environmental Engineering with a focus on Coastal Engineering. He joined UCD in 2020 after holding research positions at the University of Warwick (UK) and UCD itself, funded by the European Regional Development Fund. Previously, he served as a faculty member at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (Bangladesh).
His research interests include nature-based solutions for climate resilience, coastal infrastructure protection, wave-structure interactions, extreme coastal hazards, and marine water quality. He has secured ~€1.5M in research funding since 2022 from agencies like CHIST-ERA, EPA Ireland, and Geological Survey Ireland. He directs the UCD MEngSc in Water, Waste, and Environmental Engineering program.
Dr. Salauddin’s work bridges hydraulic engineering and environmental science, leveraging machine learning and numerical modeling to address coastal challenges. He has published extensively on topics like wave overtopping prediction, scour depth modeling, and eco-retrofitting of seawalls. His awards include the Chancellor’s International Award (2016–2020) and the Best Paper Award in Hydraulic Engineering (2016).
He teaches modules such as Hydraulics I & II, Water Engineering, and Applied Hydrology. Current and past research projects span PhD topics like nature-based coastal resilience and AI-driven solutions for data-sparse regions.
