Md Saiful Karim

Dr. Md Saiful Karim is a Professor in the School of Law and Justice at the University of Southern Queensland. He holds a PhD from Macquarie University and has held visiting roles globally, including as McDougall Visiting Professor in International Law at West Virginia University. His expertise spans environmental law, ocean governance, maritime security, and climate change law. He has authored or edited over 20 books and published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, focusing on topics like marine biodiversity, cybersecurity in shipping, and sustainable development goals.

Dr. Karim is a lead author for the IPCC’s Special Report on the Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate and the IPBES Global Assessment of Biodiversity. He advises governments on international maritime law, including roles with the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission. His research often bridges legal frameworks with environmental justice, particularly in South Asia.
