Małgorzata Fidelis is a Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of History at the University of Illinois Chicago, within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Her research focuses on social and cultural history of post-1945 Poland, particularly gender, youth culture, and communism. She holds a PhD and advises graduate students in Eastern European history.
Her major works include Women, Communism, and Industrialization in Postwar Poland (2010) and Imagining the World from Behind the Iron Curtain (2022), which won the 2023 Oskar Halecki Prize. She teaches courses on Eastern Europe, gender studies, and the Global Sixties.
She currently oversees graduate studies in History and emphasizes UIC's strengths in Polish studies through course offerings, archival resources, and Chicago's Polish community connections.
