About
Maya Rita Stark is a post-doctoral researcher at the Swedish Institute for Social Research (SOFI) at Stockholm University. She is affiliated with the Level of Living (LNU) research group which studies individuals' living conditions, social stratification and economic and social inequality in Sweden.
Her primary research interests include family inequality and educational inequality, with a focus on multiple dimensions of socio-economic status. She specializes in using Swedish register data to analyze patterns of inequality across various domains including family formation, educational expansion, and social stratification.
Dr. Stark's publication record shows consistent work on educational assortative mating, childlessness patterns among highly educated populations, housing context and fertility, and intergenerational proximity. Her research demonstrates how educational expansion has transformed family formation patterns among highly educated Swedes across multiple cohorts.
She is currently involved in four major research projects: (1) the FORTE Program 'Interlocking inequalities: A multidimensional perspective on inequality in contemporary Sweden', (2) the FORTE Program 'ALL-INCLUSIVE: cohesion and inclusion in work-life change', (3) the VR educational research project 'Right competence at the right time--but for whom?', and (4) the FORTE post-doc project 'Unequal families: mapping out socio-economic status inequalities between and within Swedish households' where she serves as sole researcher.
