Maxwell Omwenga

Dr. Maxwell Omwenga is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Program Director of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Evansville. His expertise lies in machine learning, cyber-physical systems, and edge computing. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (2021), an MS in Data Communication and Software Engineering from Makerere University (2012), and a BSc in Computer Science from Makerere University (2006).

His research focuses on integrating AI with physical systems, particularly in advancing subsurface object detection using GPR and deep reinforcement learning. Notable projects include ScanCloud and autonomous cognitive GPR frameworks. He has received prestigious awards such as the Global Scholar Grant (2024) and ARSAF Grant (2023). His work spans venues like IEEE IoT Journal and IEEE International Conferences.

Dr. Omwenga teaches courses ranging from introductory computer science to advanced topics like machine learning and artificial intelligence. He is actively involved in professional organizations including IEEE and Sigma Xi.
