Max Levinson is a Professor in the Collaborative Piano department at New England Conservatory (NEC), where he teaches Collaborative Skills to piano majors and coaches chamber music ensembles. He is also faculty at the Boston Conservatory.
- Education: BA from Harvard University; Artist Diploma (AD) from New England Conservatory. Studied with Patricia Zander, Aube Tzerko, and Bruce Sutherland.
His research and performance interests focus on piano, chamber music, and collaborative piano. Levinson has performed as a soloist with renowned orchestras such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, and Boston Pops, as well as with the St. Louis, Detroit, San Francisco, and other symphony orchestras.
Levinson has appeared at major music festivals including Santa Fe, Marlboro, Tanglewood, and Mostly Mozart. He has performed in prestigious venues like New York’s Alice Tully Hall, Washington D.C.’s Kennedy Center, London’s Wigmore Hall, Zürich’s Tonhalle, Musée d’Orsay in Paris, and NEC’s Jordan Hall. His recordings are available on N2K Encoded Music, Warner Classics, and Stereophile labels.
- Awards: Avery Fisher Career Grant; Andrew Wolf Award; First Prize at the Dublin International Piano Competition (1997).
He serves as artistic director for the San Juan Festival in Colorado and has instructed masterclasses at Harvard, the Royal Irish Academy, MIT, the University of Washington, Rutgers, and Brigham Young University.
