Max Hofmann is a Researcher at the Department of Structural Development of Farms and Rural Areas (Structural Change) within the Land Systems Group at IAMO. His work focuses on climate change impacts on agriculture, GIS/spatial data analysis, and risk management strategies for agricultural systems. He holds a Master’s in Biology from Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and has been with IAMO since 2018.
Key research projects include:
- BALTRAK: Balancing agriculture and biodiversity in Kazakhstan’s steppes
- GEO-WB6: Establishing a Geoinformation Centre in Albania’s Agricultural University
- RIMARA: Risk management concepts for small farmers in Armenia/Azerbaijan
- Risk-Contingent Credit: Promoting resilience in African agriculture
His research combines climate modeling with spatial analysis to assess crop yields under extreme weather conditions, particularly in Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Central Asia. He also develops index insurance products for African farmers and coordinates capacity-building initiatives like DSinGIS. Hofmann frequently presents at international conferences, focusing on topics like weather extremes, GIS applications, and sustainable agricultural policies.
Publications highlight his interdisciplinary approach, spanning climatic impacts on wheat/barley yields, machine learning applications in agriculture, and policy-oriented risk management strategies.
