Mauricio Lima

Mauricio Lima is a Doctoral Researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry in Jena, Germany. He is affiliated with the Biogeochemical Integration (BGI) department and contributes to the Adapting Machine Learning for Earth Systems project group within the Atmosphere-Biosphere Coupling, Climate and Causality research group.

His research focuses on integrating machine learning with Earth system modeling to disentangle causal relationships in carbon, water, and energy fluxes under rising atmospheric CO₂. The group employs hybrid modeling approaches and statistical analyses of Earth observation data to address climate feedback mechanisms and improve predictive frameworks for phenomena like phenological changes and atmospheric carbon transport.

The USMILE project, funded by the European Research Council, and the PhenoFeedbacks initiative (DFG-funded) exemplify the interdisciplinary work in his group. Collaborations with institutions like ECMWF, Barcelona Supercomputing Center, and Wageningen University & Research highlight the international scope of these efforts.
