Maureen Lichtveld is the Dean and Jonas Salk Chair in Population Health at the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health. She has over 40 years of experience in environmental public health and leads a community of 640 students, 160 faculty, and 320 staff.
Her educational background includes a Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University and a Doctor of Medicine from Anton de Kom University of Suriname and Leiden University. She previously held leadership roles at Tulane University and the CDC/ATSDR.
- Research Focus: Cumulative impact of chemical/non-chemical stressors, disaster response (pandemics, hurricanes), health disparities, and maternal/child health in global contexts.
- Leadership Roles: National Academy of Medicine (Climate and Health Committee), National Academies Board on Global Health, Consortium of Universities for Global Health board member.
Her recent publications highlight environmental health impacts of climate disasters, mercury exposure in Suriname, and frameworks for community health worker programs. She has received prestigious awards including the CDC’s Environmental Health Scientist of the Year.
