Maura K. Heyn is a Professor in the Department of Classical Studies at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) and has served as Associate Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences since 2023. She holds a Ph.D. in Archaeology from UCLA (2002) and a BA in History and French from Loyola Marymount University (1991).

Her research focuses on funerary sculpture in the Roman Empire, particularly from Palmyra (Syria), with emphasis on social identity, cultural hybridity, ancient clothing, and the archaeology of the body. She has collaborated on the Palmyra Portrait Project and explored mural decoration of the Temple of Bel in Dura-Europos and symbolic hand gestures in Roman funerary art.
In her administrative role, she oversees Freshman Seminars, Ashby Dialogues, Student Success initiatives, CAS Communications, Technology, the Harriett Elliott Lecture Series, Undergraduate Curriculum and Program changes, and the Humanities at Work program. She previously served as Director of the Archaeology Program (2014–2017) and Head of the Department of Classical Studies (2017–2023).
