Matylda Włodarczyk is a University Professor (Associate Professor) at the Faculty of English, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poland. She holds a D.Litt. in English (2017), a PhD (2005), and an MA (2001), all from Poznań. Her research and teaching focus on historical linguistics, historical pragmatics, and the development of extraterritorial varieties of English, especially Early South African English.
Her research interests include:
- Historical linguistics and sociolinguistics
- Historical pragmatics and genre studies
- Development of new Englishes
- Polish-English-Afrikaans contrastive grammar and syntax
- Corpus-based analysis of language change
- Code-switching and multilingualism in historical texts
She has presented her work at over 30 international conferences, including the International Congress of Historical Linguistics and the International Pragmatics Conference. Her research has been supported by national grants and international scholarships.
Her academic service includes:
- Peer reviewer for Journal of Pragmatics, Social Semiotics, Łódź Papers in Linguistics, Studia Anglica Posnaniensia, and others
- Member of the editorial board of Studia Anglica Resoviensia
- Organizer and session convener at major conferences such as Poznań Linguistic Meeting and European Society for the Study of English
She has supervised BA and MA theses and is actively involved in academic mentorship and collaborative research. She is a member of professional organizations including the Polish Association for the Study of English (PASE), International Pragmatics Association (IPrA), and The Society for Multi-Ethnic Studies: Europe and the Americas.
