Matthias Ruffert

Prof. Dr. Matthias Ruffert is a Professor of Public Law and European Law at Humboldt University of Berlin, leading the Chair of Public Law and European Law within the Faculty of Law. His research focuses on European constitutional law, administrative law, globalization, governance, public economic law, and environmental law. He actively engages in academic initiatives such as the European Law Moot Court and collaborates on projects like the Dornburg Research Group, examining administrative law reforms across Europe. Ruffert organizes interdisciplinary seminars and excursions, such as the Brussels and Warsaw trips, fostering student interaction with EU institutions and legal practitioners. He has hosted prominent speakers like Poland’s Minister of Justice Adam Bodnar and Advocate General Juliane Kokott, addressing topics like the rule of law and EU integration. His work emphasizes practical legal education through events like the Model European Union Conference (MEUC) and German-French legal studies (BerMüPa).

Research projects include a commentary on the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU) and the Charter of Fundamental Rights, co-led with Prof. Christian Calliess.
