Matthew Turk is the President and Professor at the Toyota Technological Institute at Chicago (TTIC), an independent graduate institution focused on computer science theory and AI. He is also a Professor Emeritus at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), where he co-directed the Four Eyes Lab.
Research Interests include computer vision, machine learning, multimodal interaction, augmented/virtual reality, and AI ethics. He co-founded an AR startup (acquired by PTC Vuforia in 2016) and serves as Associate Editor for ACM Transactions on Interactive Intelligent Systems.
Scientific Awards: ACM Fellow, IEEE Fellow, IAPR Fellow, AAIA Fellow, AIIA Fellow, and 2011-2012 Fulbright-Nokia Distinguished Chair in Information and Communications Technologies.
Professional History: Served as Chair of UCSB's Computer Science Department and Media Arts and Technology Graduate Program, with additional appointments in Electrical and Computer Engineering and Dynamical Neuroscience. Organized major conferences like CVPR and ACM Multimedia.
