Strickland has explored factors influencing susceptibility to air pollutants among children, quantified links between pediatric respiratory diseases and pollution mixtures across diverse settings, and analyzed measurement errors in pollution exposure assessments. He previously received an NIH K01 career development award and directed projects in the Emory/Georgia Tech EPA Clean Air Research Center.
Current work includes leading an NIH-funded study (R01ES029528) examining wildfire smoke's cardiorespiratory impacts in Reno. His methodological expertise spans:
- Source apportionment of PM2.5
- Spatiotemporal pollution modeling
- Epidemiological methods for confounding adjustment
- Health risk assessment of wildfire smoke
- Birth outcome-environmental exposure associations
Recent articles highlight his focus on wildfire smoke, heat waves, PM2.5 speciation, and environmental justice. He collaborates extensively on:
- Climate change health impacts
- Maternal-child health
- Respiratory disease epidemiology
- Measurement error correction
- Public health policy evaluation
