Matthew Somma, PT, DPT, OCS, MTC, CSCS is Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of New England’s Westbrook College of Health Professions, and serves as Co-Director of the Motion Analysis Lab. Since joining the full-time faculty in 2018, he teaches pathology, musculoskeletal content, practice management, and scholarship while maintaining an active clinical practice.

Research & Clinical Interests
Dr. Somma’s scholarly and clinical work centers on orthopaedic and sports physical therapy. His particular emphases include surgical and non-surgical management of orthopaedic conditions, rehabilitation of the shoulder and the overhead athlete, biomechanical analysis of throwing mechanics, spinal dysfunction, and performance-based strength-and-conditioning interventions. His Motion Analysis Lab activities integrate these interests to advance evidence-based practice.
Professional Leadership
He currently serves a two-year term as President of the Maine Chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), driving state-level initiatives for the profession.
