Matthew Slotkin

Matthew Slotkin is an Associate Professor of Music at Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania, where he has directed the guitar program since 2004. An acclaimed performer and scholar, he maintains an active international career spanning six continents with a focus on contemporary premieres and historical repertoire recovery.

Slotkin's research centers on classical guitar performance practice, with specialized expertise in twentieth-century repertoire and archival recovery projects. His scholarly work focuses on neglected compositions from the Andrés Segovia era, particularly works commissioned but rarely performed by Segovia during the 1920s-1940s European tours. He actively bridges performance and musicology through premiere performances of contemporary works and historical reconstructions.

His recent recording project exemplifies these dual interests, analyzing compositional trends across multiple European national styles while demonstrating technical mastery of period performance practices. The project reveals significant connections between compositional schools in France, England, and Central Europe during Segovia's formative career period.

Slotkin has delivered masterclasses at Oberlin Conservatory, Northwestern University, Victorian College of the Arts (Australia), ESMAE (Portugal), and National University of La Plata (Argentina). He served as partial sabbatical replacement for Nicholas Goluses at Eastman School of Music in 2016.

As co-founder of the duo Dez Cordas, he maintains an active chamber music presence with two Summit Records releases. His performance activities include regular appearances at major international festivals including World Saxophone Congresses, Piccolo Spoleto Festival, and Chautauqua Institution.
