Matthew Schultz serves as Director of First-Year Writing and the Writing Center at Vassar College, alongside his role as Adjunct Associate Professor of English. He holds a B.A. and M.A. from John Carroll University and a Ph.D. in English Literature from Saint Louis University, specializing in Irish Studies, Literary Modernism, and Postcolonial Theory. His research explores genre, medium, and epistemology, with a focus on Modernist/Modernity, poetics, speculative fiction, and process-based writing.
Dr. Schultz’s scholarly work spans academic articles and creative writing, including poetry collections like Pipe Smoke (2025) and An Oblique Voice (2024), as well as novels such as We, The Wanted (2020). His interdisciplinary projects include Haunted Historiographies (2014), analyzing postcolonial Irish fiction, and Postcolonial Star Wars (2020), examining imperial narratives through a cultural lens. His articles address topics from James Joyce’s Ulysses to the aesthetics of video games like Bloodborne.
